DPRK Premier Inspects Chollima Steel Complex, State Academy of Sciences

Kim Tok Hun, member of the Presidium of the Political Bureau of the C.C., Workers’ Party of Korea, vice-president of the State Affairs Commission of the DPRK and premier of the Cabinet, made a field survey of the Chollima Steel Complex and the State Academy of Sciences.
Going round the steel and rolling shops of the complex, the premier called on its officials and workers to take the lead in carrying out the five-year plan unveiled at the Eighth Party Congress in the same fighting spirit and traits that the preceding generation displayed to powerfully accelerate the advance of the country with increased steel production.
He stressed the need for the complex to maximize the operating rate of equipment and lower the cost of iron production by fully tapping its own technical force and potentials and to take timely measures for the supply of raw and other materials.
Learning about the research work at the State Academy of Sciences, the premier called for making more scientific research achievements conducive to the development of the national economy and the improvement of the people’s standard of living, bearing in mind the intention of the Party which set science and technology as an engine for socialist construction.
Discussed at the field consultative meetings were measures for pushing ahead with the work to constantly increase the production capacity in a planned way to meet the growing demand for iron and steel and for thoroughly orienting the research work towards the settlement of urgent sci-tech problems arising in such major economic sectors as metallurgical and chemical industries.
